Boko Haram Kills 40 In Fresh Borno Attack

 
No fewer than 40 people may have died in fresh at­tack on a remote border community in the northern part of Borno State by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Sources said gunmen suspected to be Boko Ha­ram members attacked Gur­mushi village in Marte Lo­cal Government Area, north of Borno, on the Nigeria-Cameroon border yester­day, after the early morning Muslim prayer (Subhi).
The attackers reportedly opened fire on the residents in their homes. A source stated that about 40 people were killed though the claim could not be verified from the military or police authorities in the state at press time.
A military source said the incident had not been reported to the authorities in the state capital, “due to the remoteness of the area,” adding that “GSM services are not available in the area.”
The BBC Hausa Service monitored in Maiduguri yesterday, also quoted a woman as saying 40 people were killed. “I counted over 40 corpses littered on the ground, while the village was razed completely. Most of us ran into the bush for our safety,” the woman told BBC on phone. She said 12 people were injured.
She  also said she and other residents had all fled the village to a Cameroon settlement for fear of repeat attack by the insurgents.
