Following the bomb blast that killed over 15 people on Thursday night in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, has directed that all stationary vehicles on the corridor of the Nyanya road be removed.
Mohammed, who gave this directive to the joint security operatives at the scene of the bomb explosion site yesterday, insisted that the removal of all such vehicles must be completed in one week.
He added that President Goodluck Jonathan had directed the FCT administration to build a standard park for public use alongside Nyanya corridor. He noted that the volume of human traffic on the route into the city was up to 2 million persons, adding that work on the expansion of the stretch between the metropolis and Masaka which has already been captured in the 2014 budget would soon commence.
Mohammed also pointed out that some of the illegal structures that cause congestion around the area would be demolished to pave way for easy access on the portion of the road.
On his part, the Village head of Nyanya, Alhaji Angola Kaduna Shuaibu, urged the administration to expedite action on the demolition process but advised that those to be affected should be adequately compensated.
Chairman, Nyanya terminal park, Isiaka Nagode, lamented the plights of commuters who were being forced to walk long distance to board a bus or taxi and pleaded with the administration to re-open the park. The request was instantly turned down by security operatives.
The Minister assured that the Park would be opened as soon as it was possible to do so. Mohammed also took a condolence tour to all the district hospitals in the territory where he condoled with survivors.
