Team Ratings: Nigeria vs Scotland
Nigeria
-
A. Ejide Was fortunate in the first half as he flapped at a corner and pushed the ball into his own net, only for Lee Probert to blow for a fowl on the keeper.
-
U. Echiejile Dynamic and tricky, Elderson showed some nice skill in the first half and was often instrumental in Nigeria's best moves down the left flank.
-
J. Yobo Commanding and calm on the ball as you would expect. He shackled Naismith in the first half but was often caught out by the movement of Scotland's midfield runners.
-
O. Kunle Solid but not particularly effective.
-
A. Egwuekwe Physically imposing from set pieces but not particularly effective in other areas of the game.
-
E. Uzoenyi Erratic with his set piece delivery. Did well in the first half to set up Shola Ameobi as Nigeria looked to take the lead, but often lacked the killer ball to unlock Scotland's defence.
-
R. Gabriel Was busy and keen to get on the ball but failed to make any real impact going forward.
-
J. Obi Careless with his passing on occasion. Struggled to deal with the running of Morrison and Maloney and was replaced by Igiebor on 54 minutes.
-
M. Babatunde A willing runner and dangerous on occasions for Nigeria, but he perhaps lacked the guile to carve out clear cut opportunities for his side on the night.
-
M. Uchebo He caused Scotland problems with his powerful runs towards the box, and, despite a lucky deflection, he scored the Super Eagles' opening goal. Replaced by Odemwingie after 55 minutes.
-
Shola Ameobi Had a few decent chances in the first half, with an acrobatic volley forcing McGregor into a good save. Strong and imposing as ever but not clinical enough in front of goal.
Scotland
-
A. McGregor Made some fantastic saves for his side, often getting down low and hanging on to the ball well. Couldn't do anything about the Nigeria's first but perhaps could have done better for their second.
-
A. Hutton Nearly gifted Nigeria a goal in the first half with a poor pass, but excelled for the rest of the game, getting forward effectively and forcing the own goal to put his side ahead.
-
A. Robertson Impressive display from the left back. He broke up play well and got forward to good effect. His link up play with Anya was excellent and his attacking intent was a joy to watch.
-
G. Greer Played well in the first half but as the pressure mounted towards the end of the game he lost some of his authority. Couldn't stop Nwofor equalising late on.
-
C. Mulgrew Scored Scotland's opener with an outstanding touch. It was a world class finish and was befitting of Scotland's creative play throughout the game. Faded in the second half but an encouraging performance nonetheless.
-
G. Hanley Committed and willing in the challenge in the first half. Was unfortunate to deflect Uchebo's shot past McGregor. Like Greer, couldn't stop Nigeria from scoring late on.
-
I. Anya The stand out performer on the night. Relentlessly exploited space down the left flank and beat his man on almost every occasion. His delivery was poor on occasions, but his pace was frightening and caused Nigeria problems all night
-
S. Brown Tenacious and strong in the tackle, Brown was extremely effective in Scotland's midfield, breaking up Nigeria's attacks and distributing the ball to the flanks impressively.
-
J. Morrison Showed clever movement and intelligence in the middle of the park. Linked up well with Maloney and was at the heart of many of Scotland's attacking moves.
-
S. Maloney Linked up well with Morrison and caused Nigeria problems with his runs into the box.
-
S. Naismith Had a quiet first half. Lacked the physical presence required up against Yobo but worked tirelessly for his team. Replaced by Chris Martin at half time.
Substitutes

-
E. Ambrose Replaced the injured Odunlami after 75 minutes. Didn't have much defending to do as Nigeria piled on the pressure late on.
-
G. Oboabona
-
N. Igiebor Looked lively when he came on in the 53rd minute. Used his pace well and forced McGregor into a good save with a powerful low shot. Made a positive impact on the game for Nigeria.
-
R. Azeez
-
V. Moses His pace caused Scotland all sorts of problems late on. He switched flanks a number of times and looked to cut in to open up space for himself. Impressive when running with the ball at speed but his shooting was poor.
-
N. Oduamadi
-
U. Nwofor Made a nuisance of himself from the moment he replaced Ameobi, with a number of impressive runs resulting in near misses before finally slotting home the last minute goal. It was a tight angle and the forward showed good technique to slide it past McGregor and into the corner of the net.
-
P. Odemwingie A relatively quiet return for the Stoke man but, after replacing Uchebo, he carved out a good chance for Nwofor that the forward headed wide.
