Boko Haram: We’ve Arrested Chief Butcher Of Balmo Forest –Police

The Force Headquarters of the Nigerian Police yesterday announced the arrest of a top member of the  Boko Haram sect, who also serves as the chief butcher of the organisation attached to Balmo forest that was  recently destroyed by the military.
The suspect, Mohammed Zakari, 30, who hails from Kaigamari village, Daptchari in Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State, was said to have been arrested along Darazo-Basrika Road, while trying to flee from the ongoing intensive counter insurgency operations embarked upon by the military around the Balmo Forest.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said the suspect, who was arrested by police detectives attached to the Bauchi State police command last Saturday at about 2p.m., would assist security agencies in tracking down other members of the group.
Mba, who said the suspect had been linked to the recent slaughtering of seven persons, including women and children, was tutored in the art of insurgency at Gombe Forest under the leadership of one Abba Taura, who is now on the run and that he only moved to Balmo Forest three months ago.
The chief butcher was also said to have actively participated in the April attack on Customs Officers at Kari Town, along Maiduguri Road, Bauchi State.
The police spokesman, while appealing to the citizens in the affected areas to be on the alert for any suspicious or strange character fleeing from the forest, called for the understanding and support from the public in tackling insurgency, terrorism and other related crimes headlong.
