Brazil 2014 Fallout: Keshi Scared Of Ex-Internationals —Lawal

Ex-international, Garba Lawal, has attributed the frosty relationship between Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi, and many ex-Nigerian players to unfounded fear on the part of the Eagles manager.
Reacting to Keshi’s claim that the ex-internationals had been critical of him, Lawal insisted that Keshi had been shying away from taking advice from his former teammates ostensibly because he feels one of them could take his job.
“If Keshi is not getting support from ex-internationals, it is for a reason that is not far fetched. You know some coaches are always uncomfortable when you come close to them. They will always think that you want to take their job or even tell you that you are jealous of them. Keshi falls into that category of coaches, who are unnecessarily scared of their collegues.
“If Keshi claims that we were hard on him, I challenge him to tell me how many ex-internationals he brought close to him. He never asked for advice from any of us and many of us are afraid of going close to him so that he won’t accuse us of planning to take his job,” he quipped.
Chindo, as friends fondly call him, also blamed poor selection for Nigeria’s early exit from the World Cup, arguing that the technical crew bungled the tournament with the invitation of unfit players, just as he lamented that Eagles lacked quality bench.
Asked his impression of Brazil 2014, Lawal said: “We would have done better than this. We would have won the game against France but I want to think that the players lacked self believe. I will not blame the players alone since football is about responsibilities.”
“A good coach must know what he wants and the kind of tactics to adopt to win games. We saw a more determined set of players in the Algerian team. They were very impressive. The Eagles players failed to live up to the expectation of the world.
“If the truth must be told, we have to admit that we made mistakes right from the invitation of the players. Keshi should have invited some of the players he left behind. We lacked a good bench that would have changed things when the chips are down,” he quipped.
