Danagogo Opens Up On NFF Crisis

…Insists he is not fighting personal battle against Maigari
Minister of Sports and Chairman National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has insisted that there was no iota of truth in the impression that he has personal scores to settle with the eggheads of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), reassuring that the current crisis rocking Nigerian football would soon be resolved.Speculations were riff that the Minister was fighting a vindictive battle due to the threat from the Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led board that he would leave office as three of his predecessors did during the federation’s four year tenure, in addition to other ill-treatment melted to him by the board. However, answering questions from journalists recently, the minister dismissed the impression, insisting that it was the federation that pleaded with him through a correspondence to intervene in averting the looming crisis.
“If it is a personal battle, I can tell you that I can work with any kind of human being, provided you do your work.
“There are always extant rules and regulations, if when followed do not require enemity or friendship to work together.
“I’m one person who does not believe in personalizing official issues. I believe in everybody doing his or her  work to move the system forward. It is wrong associating personal motive to administrative matters.
“Before me is a letter the NFF General Secretary, Mr. Musa Amadu wrote and brought to me on July 3 when I returned, pleading with me to intervene.
“Part of the letter, which also informed me of the court order from Jos, read: ‘The Honourable Minister is invited to intervene and save the gains made by Nigeria in football development recently.’
“If you were in my shoes as the minister, what will you do? Seek the advice of legal minds for the proper interpretation of what is required? I don’t think I did anything wrong by forwarding the letter to the civil servants under my ministry to ensure that they protect the premises and ensure that people did not come there to fight.
“I don’t see anything personal about that. Maybe the expectation of the federation was different from the action we took, but we have to do what is proper in that circumstance. That was the only extent we tried to maintain law, order and peace.
“The rest was within them following the normal football rules and statutes. Those that gathered were those not happy with his government. It is not within the scope of my authority to dabble into what is happening now. Don’t forget that they used government fund to build that administration and we won’t sit down here and allow anybody to burn down that structure. It would be gross dereliction of duty on my part. In any case, I want to assure you that the situation would be resolved very soon,” he noted.
