Emenike Boosted My Confidence – Babatunde
Super
Eagles midfielder Babatunde Michael has praised teammate Emmanuel
Emenike for boosting his confidence before Nigeria clashed against
Bosnia in their Brazil 204 World Cup group game.
The 21-year-old, who has been linked
with the likes of Sunderland, Stoke City and Schalke 04 in the summer
transfer market, admitted that he was nervous when coach Stephen Keshi
gave him a starting role in the encounter – his first game in the
tournament.
“Emenike has been a wonderful guy to the youngsters, he has respect for talent and he never looked down on anybody,” africanfootball.com quoted Babatunde as saying on Wednesday.
“On several occasions, he kept on
building my confidence by encouraging me. I was surprised. Emenike told
me to ignore the critics and be focused as that was the only way I could
show that I deserve to be in Brazil with the Super Eagles and that was
exactly what I did.
“(Ogenyi) Onazi, (Austin) Ejide and some others too were not left out in helping me out.”
Meanwhile, Watford youngster Ogo Obi has joined Manchester United on trial, Sports Mole reports.
The 16-year-old, who scored 10 goals in
five games at last year’s Milk Cup, is widely regarded as one of the
brightest talents in England.
Obi’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with the forward now due to spend a period with United.
Watford have offered the youngster a new contract, but have allowed the player to join the former English champions on trial.
Obi joins Benfica youngsters Joao Filipe and Joao Virginia on trial at the club.
