President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday forwarded the nomination of the Corps Marshal of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC),  Mr. Osita Chidoka, as minister representing Anambra State in the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to the Senate.
If confirmed by the Senate, Chidoka will replace former Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah.  The president also nominated a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Abuja, Dr. Suleiman Abubakar, as a minister to represent Kwara State at the FEC. He will also replace former Sports Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
The nominations were contained in a letter Jonathan addressed to the Senate President, David Mark, which was read at yesterday’s plenary.
The president, in another letter, also urged the upper legislative chamber to approve the nomination of the current acting Director General of the Nigerian Pension Commission,  Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amaju, as the substantive head of the agency.
Senate may screen and confirm the two nominees next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Mark has reiterated the need for peace and unity among Nigerians as the needed elixir for progress and development.
The Senate president stated this when he played host to his colleagues at a breakfast meeting in solidarity with Muslim faithful currently observing the Ramadan fast. He urged them to devote their time to praying for the country.
He noted that the challenges facing the nation, especially insecurity called for prayer and total submission to the Almighty Creator, stressing that the “challenge before all of us is to pray for the peace and unity of the country.
“We need to be our brothers’ keeper at all times. Destiny has placed a burden on us to work for the peace and unity of the country. The current state of insecurity in the land is not just embarrassing, but retrogressive to the socio-economic and political development of Nigeria.
“It is a matter that is beyond human comprehension. We should rise to the occasion and salvage the situation. Whatever we can do individually and collectively, we must do it now.”
Deputy Senate Leader, Abdul Ningi, also advocated the need for peaceful co-existence among religious groups in the country, pointing out that religion should be a unifying factor and not otherwise.
