Nigeria To Create 3.5m Jobs By 2015 Via Knowledge Economy
The country is expected to create 3.5million jobs for unemployed
youths by the end of 2015 through the agricultural transformational
agenda and knowledge economy.
However, the country has already created 2.5million jobs.
Disclosing this on Wednesday in Enugu at the opening ceremony of the 25th annual national conference of the Nigerian Computer Society(NCS), IT umbrella body at the Nike Lake Resort Center was Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary.
She however, lamented that majority of foreign exchange is used in importation of grains when Nigeria has so much to grow and harvest.
Themed: ‘Building a knowledge based economy in Nigeria: The role of Information Technology’.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Nigerian Computer Society, NCS, Prof. David Adewumi asserted that the theme could not have been more appropriate in the cointry considering that modern economies are increasingly based on knowledge and information as the drivers of productivity and growth.
“We as an advocacy group, we will make our recommendations and hope that the government will help to implement the recommendations”.
Also speaking, a Deloitte’s Manager,Mrs. Funmi Odumuboni disclosed that data is the currency for a knowledge based economy,while the knowledged based worker will be a dominant player in the revolutionary knowledge economy.
