Prince George Celebrates First Birthday With Small, Intimate Party: Details
A party fit for a prince! After the mass hysteria that gripped England last July surrounding the royal birth, Prince George and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are celebrating his first birthday in a much more low-key manner on Tuesday, July 22.
A spokesman for the palace tells
Us Weekly, "The family is marking it privately with close family and
friends at Kensington Palace." A source adds that it will most likely be
an indoor tea party that "may extend to the garden if the weather
remains glorious."
Joining George's parents Kate Middleton and Prince William will be his great grandmother Queen Elizabeth, Uncle Prince Harry, and the Middleton family. Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla will not be attending due to engagements in Scotland.
A source tells Us that grandma Carole and Aunt Pippa Middleton recently visited the baby store Blue Almonds in Chelsea, London, to pick up baby clothes for George's big day.
Another source adds that Middleton and Prince William are trying to keep their royal son from getting spoiled.
"George will be getting clothes
and wooden toys from mum and dad for his birthday," the source said.
"William and Kate don’t want to go overboard. He has been given so many
gifts over the months and there’s only so much space to store them!"
The heir to the throne's first
birthday will also be marked by an exhibition by Buckingham Palace
called Royal Childhood. It will feature a collection of toys and outfits
used by royal kids over the past 250 years.
