Usain Bolt To Race On Copacabana Beach
Jamaican world record holder Usain Bolt will head to Rio de Janeiro
following the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to run in a special 100m
event.
The race on Copacabana beach on 14 August completes
Bolt's 2014 schedule
and means he will not face America's in-form Justin Gatlin until 2015.
Gatlin, 32, has won 11 consecutive 100m races and two 200m races this year.
Bolt's schedule also includes 100m races in Poland on 23 August and at the Zurich Diamond League on 28 August.
Bolt, 27, has competed on Copacabana beach before, winning a 150m race in March 2013, on a track specially built for the event.
Gatlin, who returned from a four-year doping ban in 2010, will not receive an invitation to race against Bolt in Zurich because it is the policy of the meeting's organisers not invite athletes that have been banned for two years or more.
However, while the 100m race in Zurich is not part of the Diamond League series of events, the 200m race at the same meeting will be.
Under Diamond League rules, world silver-medallist Gatlin, who is currently tied for fourth in the standings for the 200m, could still race in the longer event.
