W’Brom Target Moses, Burnley For Efe
The
transfer coast appears to be getting clearer for Nigeria’s Victor Moses.
West Brom have said that they are hoping to push ahead with a loan deal
for the player who failed to tie down a regular shirt with Liverpool
following the loan deal from Chelsea.
The Baggies were first linked with the
23-year-old last month but now want to conclude a deal with the start of
the campaign just three weeks away.
Moses, 23, endured a disappointing
campaign on-loan at Liverpool last year and failed to re-launch his
career in the fashion he desired. The attacker was also in the World Cup
team for Nigeria in Brazil but could not also show the kind of sparkle
he showed when he appeared with the team at the 2013 Africa Nations Cup.
He won the cup with Nigeria in the competition held in South Africa.
However, the Baggies Technical Director
Terry Burton has installed the Nigeria international as the leading
candidate to play on the club’s flanks.
Moses joined Chelsea for £9m in 2012 but
has never managed to recapture the form that saw scores of scouts
flocking to watch him at Wigan. Moses and his Nigerian teammate Mikel
Obi were left out of the Chelsea pre-season tour of Europe. Even though
watchers of the market suggested it meant they were no longer needed,
Mikel’s agent John Shittu claimed he was given time off to rest after
the Brazil 2014 as the Super Eagles made it into the second round. A
temporary switch to the Midlands could ignite his career; however, the
Baggies are also monitoring Middlesbrough’s Albert Adomah and free agent
Jobi McAnuff, if they fail to get their primary target.
Also as the scouts moved around the
market, Burnley have shown interest in Efe Ambrose. The Clarets are
looking to bring 25-year-old Celtic defender to Turf Moor if media
reports in The Mail on Sunday are true. He was part of the
Nigeria team that reached the last 16 of the World Cup after which it
seems clubs began to take note.
Leicester and Crystal Palace were both
linked with Ambrose earlier in the summer but their interest in the 6”3
defender now appears to have cooled according to the Mail, leaving the
door open for the Clarets to step in and make an enquiry.
Ambrose joined Scottish Premier League
club, Celtic from Israeli Premier League club FC Ashdod on transfer
deadline day in the summer of 2012, signing a three-year contract.
Brown Ideye has enjoyed the biggest move so far of all Nigerian players with his £10m transfer to West Brom.
