Zamfara Farmers Go Digital, NAPI To Register 80,000
No fewer than 80,000 farmers from Zamfara State would be registered
and issued the e-wallet card by the Nigerian Agriculture Payment
Initiative (NAPI).
The Chief Executive Officer of Cellulant, an organisation responsible for digitalising farmers with e-wallet card, Mr. Bolaji Akinboro, disclosed the development during a workshop organised by Cellulant in Gusau, Zamfara State.
Bolaji explained that Zamfara was selected among the three states that would enjoy NAPI, Cellulant’s initiative in the country.
He revealed that through NAPI, every farmer in the state would have access to a smart chip card that hosts their e-wallet.
According to him, with e-wallet system, farmers would be accessible to financial institutions and various service providers.
“NAPI was targeting a minimum of 45,000 to 80,000 farmers in Zamfara State, this would solve the problem of farmers’ access to credit to produce more for commercial purpose.”
He maintained that NAPI had provided new opportunities for various goods and services to be made available to farmers in a structured and transparent mode.
In his address, the state governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Idiris Keta, explained that arrangement had been concluded to disburse N1 billion loan to farmers in the state.
Those at the workshop included Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Muhammed Kabir Danbaba, representative of Central Bank, local government chairmen, representative of farmers associations and commissioners of agriculture from Sokoto and Kano states.
