Boko Haram, Nigerian Army In Fierce Battle Over Attempt To Take Over Bama
Islamist militants, Boko Haram, had this morning launched a fresh
attack on Bama, one of the largest local governments in Borno state, in
an attempt to take over the town.
According to Sahara Reporters, the sect members arrived the town and engaged security forces in a shootout, but the forces fiercely resisted their invasion. Report says a vicious battle is currently ongoing between the sect members and the Nigerian troops who are currently stationed at the entrance of the local government.
It was gathered that the Emir of Bama and many of other residents have fled the town to the state capital, Maiduguri, to avoid being caught up in the crossfire.
Bama
is a very important local government to Borno state with a lot of
military hardware. The capture of Bama by the sect will be disastrous to
both the state government and the entire country. It will equally be
seen as a terrible omen regarding the ongoing military campaign against
the insurgents.
