Kris Jenner was watching Scott Disick, and she didn't like what she was seeing. First he had shown up late to her November 7 birthday dinner at Las Vegas' Stack, leaving the Kardashian matriarch and new boyfriend Corey Gamble waiting with an E! camera crew. Hours later at Kris' 1 Oak bash, Disick was guzzling champagne and acting erratic as he repeatedly grabbed the DJ's mic. Meanwhile, his pregnant girlfriend, Kourtney Kardashian, was not on hand to keep him in check. Kris did her best to keep the mood light, though, at least for reporters. "Everything is wonderful!" she told Us before the party - and Disick - began raging. "Kourtney is having a baby and, you know what? I am blessed." But just after 1 a.m., she was soaked and angry. A drunken Disick had shaken a champagne bottle and sprayed it all over the birthday girl's $3,995 tulle Monique Lhuillier dress. "He was going nuts and was completely f-ked up," says a family insider. "Kris pulled him aside and told him he needed to stop all of his craziness."
The lecture was so harsh, says the insider, the family now calls it "the intervention." And it was the latest in a series of warnings Disick has received from Kourtney and her family during the eight years they've been together, says the insider. Over the past six months, in fact, the dad of Mason, 5, and Penelope, 2, has already broken two promises: In June, he left Kourtney-mandated rehab after a mere five days. Then, after vowing not to drink until baby No. 3, a boy, arrives in December, the 31-year-old was already chugging vodka cocktails in public in the fall. If he continues to defy her ultimatum to clean up his act, the insider says, Kourtney, 35, will leave Disick in the new year. "Scott knows he has everything to lose but doesn't seem to care," says the insider. "And Kourtney has had it."
Family Pressure
This family is hardly known for its discretion. But earlier this year, as Disick's behavior spiraled downward, Kris, 59, and daughters Kim, 34, and Khloé, 30, "didn't feel they could talk to Kourtney about it," says the insider. "His drinking was the elephant in the room that no one wanted to address." Giving Disick space to grieve the October 2013 and January 2014 losses of his mom, Bonnie, and dad, Jeffrey, respectively, the family helplessly watched him self-medicate with booze and pills. By the spring, however, when Kourtney shared with her family that she was pregnant, her sisters struggled to stay silent. Says the source, "Khloé and Kim love Scott, but don't like him with Kourtney."
His behavior during Kim and Kanye West's late May wedding extravaganza only reinforced their fears. Aware the entire family's eyes were on him, "Scott didn't come to a lot of the dinners and activities because he knew he couldn't handle himself with the alcohol," says the insider. "Then the one night he did come out, he was puking on the floor of the hotel lobby because he was so drunk."
The situation worsened when the couple moved to New York to shoot Kourtney & Khloé Take the Hamptons. Khloé told Us in October that the turmoil with her would-be brother-in-law turned filming into a nightmare. "It was really emotional," she admitted of the Hamptons stay, during which Disick was hospitalized June 22 for alcohol poisoning after taking sleeping pills. "I'm attached to Kourtney and Scott, and emotionally invested. If Kourtney or Scott is hurting, I hurt too. We're all a family."
Even after Disick's emergency room trip, Kim and Khloé hesitated to confront Kourtney. So they conspired to get her back into therapy with a trusted adviser: Leigh Weinraub, an Arizona-based tennis and wellness coach. (She charges $215 for 50 minutes of "walk and talk" or $150 for a private tennis lesson.) Kourtney was not pleased with the meddling, saying on the show, "I'm annoyed that they sprang this therapist on me."
Still, she accepted a session. But it wasn't nearly enough to heal the relationship. When the couple aren't filming, "they can give each other the silent treatment," says the insider. "I've seen them go two days without speaking." The pair have also not slept in the same bed since Mason was born in 2009, because Disick is uncomfortable with Kourtney's dedication to cosleeping with the kids. And ironically, "if they have any 'alone' time," says the insider, "it's for cameras."
Troubled Past
Disick's costars can't help but feel betrayed too by the man who spent years convincing them his bad-boy days were behind him. Back in 2010, as Kardashian fans will recall, Kourtney's mom and sisters were so adamant she dump the "douchelord," as Khloé dubbed him, that Kris point-blank told Disick that Kourtney deserves better than "somebody that she has to be ashamed of." Now that the old Scott has returned, says the insider, "the family is worried."
And all of the fears have returned - including Kourtney's crippling paranoia that Disick cheats. (As early as Keeping Up With the Kardashians' second season, she dumped Disick after reading a text in which he told a woman, "(I) loved looking into your eyes last night.") After nights out, a source says, Disick will often crash at the Montage Beverly Hills hotel. And tabloids frequently claim to have caught him cheating. Now, two sources tell Us that Kourtney has new suspicions that he has been unfaithful. But the family source says she won't confront him: "Not without pictures of him with another woman."
Stay or Go
Despite the drama of their relationship, Kourtney feels tethered to Disick because of the kids. "She has nothing in writing in terms of parental custody - they have never even discussed what would happen if they broke up," the insider says of the couple, who bought an $8.5 million mansion in Calabasas, California, together in January. "She hasn't even thought about splitting the house and their time with the kids." Nor does she want to keep Disick away from them. "Kourtney doesn't think like a partner - she thinks like a mom," says the insider. "Mason never wants to leave Scott's side. Even though he's a negligent boyfriend, Scott is a good dad."
A source says Kourtney is waiting for the birth of their son to make a decision on Disick. In the meantime, she's seeking another partner: a baby nurse. If she chose to leave, shares a Kourtney source, "she said taking care of three kids would be a lot by herself."
For now, the family is mulling how hard to push for Disick's departure from Kourtney's life - and possibly the franchise. "They know he's an integral part of the show and a big reason people still tune in," says the Khloé source. "He's a character, but everyone who watches loves that about him." Everyone, that is, except Kourtney.
