Police Arrest 19 Rape, Robbery Suspects In Nasarawa
The Nasarawa State Police Command on Wednesday paraded 19 armed robbery and rape suspects, who had allegedly been terrorising residents of Karu, Mararaba, Keffi and Masaka areas of the state, and were arrested in between November and December.
Parading the suspects at the State Criminal Investigation Department, in Lafia, the state capital, the Police Public Relations Officer,
Ogochukwu Theodore, said the suspects were arrested for various offences, ranging from armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, criminal conspiracy and child theft.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended by detectives from Mararaba Division.
“The the arrests were made in different parts of the state, including Karu, Mararaba and Keffi following a tip-off and complaints made by some members of the public,” he added.
Theodore said Umar Ndabawa, 25, Datty Babangida,20, Emmanuel Stephen,24, Ibrahim Mohammed,21, Sunday David,29, and Onyekachi Ukelere,26, had been robbing, raping and terrorising innocent citizens at the Karu, Mararaba and Masaka area of the state.
Items recovered from the suspects included, according to him, included a White Toyota Hilux, marked BWR 659 AE; one Peugeot car with number plate AE 331 NGU; one live cartridge of 68 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and one round of .9mm live ammunition.
The police image maker disclosed that two locally made pistol, one set of camouflage uniforms, one set of DVD home theatre, one
unregistered red robber motorcycle, one amplifier, one cutlass and two knives were recovered from the hoodlums.
He added that the police also arrested one Elizabeh Aboh of Sharp Corner, Mararaba, and one Kate Ugigwe of Angwan Useini Uke Zimbabwe for criminal conspiracy and abduction of two children.
