One-chance gang nabbed

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has smashed a five-man gang that operates one-chance syndicate and operates at various parts of the city.
Those arrested include Taiye Ajayi, 45, Segun Folunsho, (a.k.a), Fela, 34, Oluwaseun Adeleye, 23, Taiye Idowu, 32, and Ahmed Musa, 35, all males.
They were arrested following complaints by residents on the activities of the gang members who pretend to be commercial vehicle operators and pick passengers at bus stops, only to take them to isolated places and rob them.
The police told Abuja Metro that the suspects, who have been in the illegal business as their means of livelihood are residents in Osun State, but usually travel to Abuja to carry out their operation.
Police further hinted that while one of them takes over the steering, two others would pose as passengers and occupy the front and back seats, while the remaining two, would hide inside the booth of the vehicle.
After picking up their victims, they would drive to lonely roads where the driver would start applying the brake at short intervals thereby making the vehicle to jerk and move like it has developed mechanical problem until they get to a suitable place to rob their victims.
When the vehicle finally comes to a stop, the other two passengers would immediately find their way to the passengers from the inside, grab them and ask them to surrender whatever they have on them at gunpoint.
After they have succeeded in robbing the passengers, they will beat them up, tear their clothes, push them out the car and zoom off.
The police say most times passersby usually find it very difficult to help these people as they mistake them for mad persons.
The suspects that usually operate in a Mazda brand vehicle with registration number FED 616 APP, have also got their vehicle impounded by the police who said it was making progress with investigation after which they would be charged to court.
