A total of 22 players have hit the Super Eagles training camp in Abuja ahead of next month’s CHAN in Rwanda. According to the team’s media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, the camp is alive and bubbling with the players training twice daily even as more players are still expected.
He noted that of the 26 players invited, 22 have arrived with two na- tional U-23 players Usman Mohammed and Bature Yaro yet to report as they are still on break from the just concluded CAF U-23 Nations Cup where Nigeria won the trophy as well as picked a qualification ticket for the football event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
“The duo of U-23’s Usman Mohammed and Bature Yaro are expected before the team jets out to South Africa. At the moment, they are enjoyng their short break as well as Rangers defender Matthew Etim, who only this past weekend got married.”
On the Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, Ibitoye said he would be expected to return to the team when the team is in South Africa.
Meanwhile, another team official Patrick Pascal said they expect more players to join up later to- day.
The squad are due to depart for South Africa next week before they will fly to Rwanda for the CHAN.
They open their 2016 CHAN campaign against Niger on January 18 in Kigali. Tunisia and Guinea are the other teams in Nigeria’s first round group.
Assistant coach Salisu Yusuf is expected to lead the team in the absence of Oliseh as he did in Ouagadougou.
